Flames of Passion

We were asked to direct the short film Flames Of Passion by Cut Chorus, as part of their “Camera Test” project, a series of short monologue/duologue web films created as part of the research for their future production of Romance. The project explores the way in which the atmosphere of a filmed story is affected by the manner in which it is filmed.

Our film was written by Mark Murphy, a monologue featuring a character loosely based on the leading man from Brief Encounter. In our direction of the short we aimed to emulate the striking aesthetic of Brief Encounter; focusing on hard, side lighting, close, evocative shots and heightened performance. The project further fuelled our exploration of the interplay between live and recorded work.
